“The Illustrated Books of the Old Testament” were written and painted by my grandfather, the Rev L G Stapleton (1911-1989). As well as being a pastor for over 30 years, Grandpa (Dad’s Dad) was artistic; he could paint, draw, and also did quite a bit of woodwork – including making toys for his four grandchildren when we were small! He produced a number of items which he used in his ministry, the most well-known (and well used) of which were his “Books of the Bible”, one of which he produced for each book of the Old Testament. Each of his books contained the main themes found in the books of the Bible, and they always ended with the Cross – the centre of our faith as Christians. The original books, made of thick card, fell apart some years ago due to age and use, but Dad felt that it would be good if Grandpa’s work could still somehow be used – and made available for others to use.
Originally used in children’s work, family services, week-night Bible studies and on other occasions, where some who were only small when they were first used still remember them today, well over 50 years later.
As a result, the files listed below have been compiled by my father, Mark Stapleton, who has been working from Grandpa’s original notes and pictures to produce PowerPoint presentations for each of the 39 books, along with PDF files giving notes and scripture references (where appropriate) for each book. The NKJV Bible has been used, plus occasionally the KJV Bible. You will find it helpful – especially if not familiar with using PowerPoint files – to take time to read the guidance notes before beginning to use the presentations; a brief ‘Introduction to the Bible’ presentation is also included.
These PowerPoint Presentations could be used at Sunday Schools, family services, week-night Bible Studies, home-schooling groups, Christian schools, young people’s groups, Christian holiday centres and camps, for private study, and so on.
When clicked on, the files will either open in new tabs or be downloaded directly onto your computer / device, depending on your computer / device settings. (In my case, the PDF files open straight away; the PowerPoint files are downloaded.) The PowerPoints and notes can then be used as desired.
