Mum’s Christmas Poem 2025

The Only Saviour

  1. Who was it in a manger laid
    In Bethlehem long ago?
Who was this Child of humble maid
    Born in surroundings so low?
  2. This was God’s Son, the Creator,
    Maker of heaven and earth,
Given a name that means ‘Saviour’,
    Named Jesus before His birth.
  3. Why leave His home of wondrous light
Why take to Him human form?
Why come to this world’s sinful night
    Facing mankind’s hate and scorn?
  4. God loved this world estranged from Him,
    Pitied those enslaved by sin,
Saw their approaching death so grim:
    Vict’ry He would surely win.
  5. So, willingly the Saviour came
    To deliver sinful man,
    So, willingly He suffered shame,
    Carrying out Salvation’s plan:
  6. In sinner’s place was crucified,
    Paid the penalty for sin,
    His people could be justified,
Sin forgiven through faith in Him.
  7. Triumphant He arose from death,
Conqu’ror of sin and the grave.
We’ll praise Him ‘til our latest breath
This One who alone can save.
