Mum’s Christmas Poem 2024

Jesus said, “… I am the Light of the World” (John 9 v 3).

When man rebelled against his God so kind,
Darkness of sin entered his heart and mind.
God promised then to send a Saviour strong,
The penalty to pay for mankind’s wrong.

The world was dark, no new prophetic word
For many years in Israel’s land was heard.
Yet some still knew the time was drawing near,
For the long promised Saviour to appear.

Into our darkness, God sent forth His light!
An angel spoke in silence of the night,
With joyful news of the great Saviour’s birth,
And of God’s glory and of peace on earth.

The shepherds found the Babe in manger laid,
The Son of God, come to the world He made,
The Son of God, who is this dark world’s light
Came not to us in splendour or in might.

And so this Babe to youth, then manhood grew,
To live the perfect life we could not do.
To God’s law He complete obedience gave:
A righteousness for those He came to save.

Then came at last ’His hour’: the time that He
In death, a perfect sacrifice would be,
That all who for forgiveness trust in Him
Might to eternal glory enter in.
